Grown as a topiary plant the Eugenia can be shaped and trimmed in a globe, spiral, pompom, or multi- balled shapes. The dense evergreen foliage also makes an attractive hedge in landscapes or around homes. The foliage is dark green, small, glossy leaves arranged densely among the small, fast growing branches. New leaves on the Eugenia (Syzygium Paniculatum, Eugenia Myrtifolium) are red in color, and responds positively to constant trimming. In the spring small cream colored blooms will grow followed by red berries. Native to Florida, the Eugenia like full sun areas and well-drained and fertile soil; Eugenia topiaries can also grow indoors in a potted container but need full sun.
